Job Description

POSITION: PIC Case Aide Full-Time; 80 hours per pay DEPARTMENT: Protective Intake Crisis Unit Troy A. Wood Human Services Complex; Franklin, PA PAY GRADE: SEIU Pay Grade 10 Starting wage: $11.81/hr. OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB To assist county Protective Intake Crisis Unit case management staff in their response to safely reduce or resolve stressors in crisis situations which threaten the well-being of an individual with acute symptoms or of those affected by his/her behavior in the least restrictive manner possible. To transport, observe, and escort clients to medical and therapy appointments, court hearings, parent/child visitations, etc. To provide basic information and contact clients who fail to keep appointments. To assist clients and/or families with everyday activities of living, home maintenance and care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB 1. Transports parents to visit their children who are in placement at the facility or designated site that is often a distance from agency. 2. Transports children in placement to visit parents. 3. Transports children/families to medical, dental, therapy, and any other necessary appointment. 4. Serves as an assistant to case management staff in relieving them of routine tasks as directed by a supervisor. 5. Assists with information gathering for case management staff to determine the need for a variety of social services. 6. Schedule and/or accompany the case management staff in the community to assess/respond to crisis situations and attend home visits. 7. Respond, as part of mobile crisis team of two, with case management as lead, to support individuals and/or families in crisis. 8. Provides minimal instruction on household management skills to clients, e.g., childproofing home (infant safety practices), cleaning, organization, pest control, etc. 9. Participates in Child Safety Car Seat Training and maintains certification. 10. Instructs agency staff, parents, and foster parents on the correct installation and use of child safety car seats. 11. Provides information on the agency’s “Infant Safe Sleep Program.” 12. Delivers documents/items to attorneys, agencies, and other service providers. 13. Documents family and collateral contacts in CAPS. 14. Keeps case management staff and supervisors informed of individual/family’s participation. Immediately informs crisis investigation specialist or supervisor of any emergency, crisis situation, or any observations or assessments with the family. 15. Attends court hearings as needed. May occasionally provide testimony in court as required. 16. Participates in staff meetings and supervision as necessary, but no less than bi-weekly. 17. Acts as a mandated reporter at all times. 18. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. OTHER DUTIES OF JOB 1. Attends meetings, trainings and seminars as required. 2. Observes visits and provide instruction or guidance as needed. 3. Participates in 120 hours of Foundations Training. 4. Participates in mandatory training (20 hours per year). 5. Performs other related duties as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Directly supervised by the PIC Supervisors and PIC Program Directors on a rotating schedule through regularly scheduled meetings, assignment of work and review of work being performed. SUPERVISION GIVEN None WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Works indoors in limited workspace with adequate temperatures, ventilation and lighting. 2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions. 3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt. 4. Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens or communicable diseases. 5. Travels frequently to perform essential job duties during all seasons and is exposed to outdoor elements, including snow and icy roads. 6. Frequently visits in clients’ homes where conditions are unanticipated. Above normal exposure, in some cases, to odors, fleas, unsanitary conditions, poorly maintained steps, unknown diseases, pets, or occasional volatile family situations. 7. Flexibility in work schedule is often required since appointments may be outside of the standard Monday through Friday workday of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS 1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions. 2. Must be able to stand/walk for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of sitting, bending, twisting, driving, and reaching as necessary to carry out job duties. 3. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out job duties. 4. Light work with occasional lifting/carrying of supplies, equipment with weights of 20 to 30 pounds. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED and a valid PA driver’s license are required. This position also requires two years of work experience that includes general office skills and basic computer knowledge as well as public contact work related to the human services field, to include at least 1 year in home service provision or site-based social service delivery. Clearances: · Must work in conjunction with employer to apply for Act 34 PA State Police Criminal History, Act 151 PA Child Abuse and FBI clearances prior to employment. Clearances currently possessed that are less than 4 years old will be accepted until new clearances are available. All clearances must reflect acceptable results. · Must not appear on Preclusion Lists as defined by “Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance Bulletin 99-11-05 Provider Screening of Employees and Contractors for Exclusion from Participating in Federal Healthcare Programs.” · Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties. 2. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills. 3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with clients, co-workers and others. 4. Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to client information and records. 5. Must possess technical knowledge regarding basic computer usage and ability to operate office equipment. 6. Must possess knowledge of general office practices and procedures. 7. Must possess some knowledge of community resources, human service agencies and ability to deal effectively with same. 8. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, foster parents, provider agencies, community service agencies, and the public. 9. Must possess the ability to engage unwilling individuals to participate with services necessary to eliminate issues within the family. 10. Must possess flexibility to be able to assist with a variety of programs and duties as needed. 11.
