Job Description

The Law Society is currently implementing a Target Operating Model for our new Technology & Change directorate, which includes recruitment of a permanent Scrum Master.

Reporting to the Programme Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for planning and managing delivery of complex change for both new and existing IT systems and business processes, and ensuring successful transition of solutions to business-as-usual operation and support.

Acting as servant leader / facilitator of scrum and project teams:

  • Organising and measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of resources
  • Measuring and maintaining delivery pace
  • Ensuring quality and organisation of the delivery backlog and user stories
  • Managing and escalating delivery risks and issues and removing impediments.
  • Driving continuous improvement including retrospectives
As a member of the team:
  • Owning and executing delivery tasks.

You will use your experience of tools and techniques in Agile delivery to ensure that corporate and functional objectives are realised, delighting stakeholders.

You will be empowered to work under your own initiative, innovate and solve problems creatively, embracing new ways of working.

What we're looking for

  • Experience of managing a portfolio of projects or goals in Scrum, or Scrum-related Agile methodologies, as a scrum master. This includes facilitation of ceremonies and backlog grooming, and ensuring that plans and the overall Roadmap are achievable.
  • Experience of customer engagement related project delivery (CRM, website, commerce, data, systems integration).
  • Knowledge of the technology needed to implement effective customer engagement in an organisation, including customer contact, customer communications, customer management and customer analytics.
  • Experience of iterative delivery of business-critical strategies and plans.
  • Ability to think and act pragmatically in-sprint, balancing the need for delivery of particular objectives with the reality of development and implementation. Extensive experience of managing and owning the RAID log, and of escalating to the highest levels of management, to remove impediments.
  • Talented facilitator and coach.
  • A natural servant leader, with wide experience of managing diverse teams and dealing with sensitivities within these.
  • Literate and credible. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills (listening, influencing and persuasiveness), capable of managing Product Owner expectations and messaging in an Agile way, and dealing effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Clear and accurate reporting skills, bringing honesty and above all demonstrable results and working software to the highest level stakeholders, in understandable language.
  • Thorough planner and self-manager, with experience of planning within a Scrum environment and guiding teams to manage their own time. Ability to work well under pressure and deliver to deadlines.
  • Ability to use Agile metrics (backlog tracking, burndown velocity) to drive delivery efficiency.
  • Understanding of the business change impacts of Scrum work and delivery. Experience of holding Product Owners accountable for the delivery of roadmaps and interdependencies.
  • Experience of managing technical suppliers from both a delivery and performance point of view, as well as working with internal service transition teams to move products into business-as-usual ownership.
  • Experience of quality assuring project documentation and ensuring that relevant frameworks and standards are followed.
  • Scrum Master or Scrum methodology qualification.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and frameworks outside of Scrum such as Kanban and XP.
  • Experience of delivery tools eg Microsoft Azure DevOps, Jira.
  • Flexibility is essential to meet committed project deadlines.
