Job Description

Yorkshire Ambulance Services NHS Trust (YAS) is looking to recruit qualified and experienced Paramedics to work within the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). It is essential that applicants for this post are already HCPC registered Paramedics with existing pre-hospital experience.

Experience and qualification in the HART skillset are essential and applicants must have attended modules 1, 2 and 3 at NARU.

HART work within hazardous areas, to deliver the highest standards of pre-hospital specialist clinical care to all patients actually or potentially affected by any major civil emergency or an accidental or deliberate release of hazardous materials or a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear agent, whilst using specialist personal protective (PPE) clothing inside the inner cordon.

The Inner Cordon is where high concentrations of a potentially hazardous substance are present and specific procedures and protocols, including Dynamic Risk Assessments, controlled access and egress and the wearing of appropriate levels of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are required. HART staff will work closely with other emergency service teams at a range of operational incidents including: Major Incidents, incidents of a CBRN nature, incidents involving hazardous materials, structural collapse, confined space rescue, major transportation incidents, incidents requiring working at height, trench collapse and rescue, incidents involving complex entrapment – (as defined and in accordance with HART IRU and USAR Standard Operating Procedures), incidents in water, including flooding, incidents involving firearms and explosives.

Candidates are also asked to be aware that HART form part of the ambulance specialist response to a Marauding Terrorist Attack. As such successful candidates must be aware of the requirement on them to deploy to such an incident and be willing to commit to doing so as part of the HART role.

The post-holder will ensure that the highest level of patient care is delivered in accordance with the procedures issued by the Trust in order to maintain personal safety and that of colleagues and casualties. This job description must be read in conjunction with the standard job description for a Paramedic which the individual is qualified to undertake, as these and other appropriate duties will be undertaken when not deployed to a HART specific incident.

Please note applicants may not be accepted on a NARU training course if they suffer with any of the following:
Candidates who have been shortlisted in the application phase will be required to undertake practical assessments, a physical competency assessment, a clinical assessment along with an interview.
