Job Description

Our mission is to push the boundaries of complex cell analysis. Using the Lightcast platform we are working with major pharmaceutical companies and leading academic institutes. Together, using our next generation microfluidic platform, we are making advances towards new science, unique clinical approaches, new therapies and innovative products.

The Lightcast platform allows precise and highly flexible independent control of thousands of microdroplets independently and in parallel using software-generated light patterns. By combining droplets containing different cells, antibodies, cancer drugs, reporters and /or other reagents we can perform complex workflows and assays with a flexibility far beyond what is currently possible on any cell analysis platform.

We are expanding the Applications team and are seeking a junior scientist/technician with expertise in microfluidics or experimental physics to provide microfluidics and optics support for our platform to internal teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

Instrument and assay testing

  • Perform maintenance of platform fluidics & optics
  • Wet testing of microfluidic products
  • Preparation of reagents
  • Prepare platform for experiments, supporting Applications team
  • Wet test new platform features
  • Keep experimental and maintenance records and write up documentation

Collaboration and planning

  • Work closely with the Applications & Biology teams to support delivery of company milestones
  • Participate in team huddles to ensure sufficient instrument support
  • Liaise with Microfluidic Product team to ensure timely delivery of products to Application team and to provide feedback on new product behaviour
  • Liaise with Software team to report bugs and test fixes

Requirements

We would expect you to have:

  • A first-class or 2:1 degree in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • A technical, hands-on track record in one of the above disciplines, with experience in more than one of the following areas:
    • Optics
    • Microfluidics
    • Assay development
  • Excellent teamworking skills

It would be advantageous for you to have:

  • Experience with microscopy and optical imaging systems
  • Background knowledge in biophysics, biochemistry or biology
  • A track record of working in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience in instrument support or assay development
  • Prior involvement in verification or validation testing

Lightcast Discovery offer competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits including:

  • 26 days holiday, plus Public Holidays

  • Pension contribution matched up to 7%
  • Private medical insurance

  • Life insurance
  • Subsidised gym membership and weekly cross fit sessions
  • Access to Cycle to Work and Technology schemes

Here at Lightcast Discovery we have an informal, open work environment where collaboration and innovation are at the heart of what we do. It is an exciting time to join our revolutionary team as we push boundaries and continue to grow.
