Job Description

The Role

Fivelands Veterinary Centre are on the lookout for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their team. The role is split into 3 shifts covering theatre, kennels, and consultations.
The theatre shifts involve anaesthesia, scrubbing into orthopaedics/soft tissue surgeries, dental x-rays, scaling, and polishing, with scope to introduce more schedule 3 procedures.

The kennel shift consists of looking after inpatients, receiving patients from theatre, speaking to owners, and ensuring a holistic approach is achieved.

The consult shift is something we would like to evolve to allow more consultations such as arthritis/kidney/thyroid/geriatric etc.

The position is for 40 hours a week across 5 days including a half day. Shifts start at 8:00am and finish at 7:30pm. Saturdays are worked 1:5 with time off the following week. We will also consider part-time applications.

About Us

Moseley is the main Fivelands branch where most of the facilities and equipment are held. We are a silver ISFM cat friendly practice, and we are starting the dog friendly accreditation. We are an IVC referral practice, so we receive referrals for surgery from other IVC practices.
Our consult rooms are spacious (with air-conditioning!) and private with a lot of nurse consultations taking place, with scope to do more.
There are separate cat and dog waiting areas, wards and isolation wards also. Each ward is well equipped for the kennel nurse allowing them to be able to concentrate on the patients.
Theatre/Xray/Prep have multi-parameters and monitoring equipment available at each station. We have recently started doing laparoscopy procedures, which has been a great addition. Other equipment includes dental x-rays, prp therapy and endoscopy.
We have a new class 4 laser for consultations and post-surgical wounds, with a visiting physiotherapist to offer support and advice.

The practice is just outside the main city centre, with excellent bus and soon to be train routes. We have staff parking at the back of the building, where we can also sit outside and eat lunch.
We are keen to utilise our nurses to the best of their ability and to support their individual needs. If that includes more schedule 3, new consultations, behaviour etc we are keen to see how we can work it into the practice.

At the Moseley Branch are a team of 4 receptionists, 5-6 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Student Veterinary Nurses and 1 Veterinary Care Assistant. We have 2 certificate holder Vets and 1 certificate holder nurse. We embrace any staff members wanting to further their knowledge and support certificates etc. We also have a lot of returning Vet students on placement, as well as student Nurses so we are happy to teach and coach.

Applicant Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse or second year student who is currently enrolled with the RCVS. As other branches need covering, having a driving license is ideal.
The candidate must work hard, enjoy a work social and try and have a bit of fun while at work.
An interest (RVN only) in clinical coaching would be ideal to support our Student Veterinary Nurses.
