THE GIG

We’re looking for an Assistant Designer to join our Innovation and Sustainability team. You will support the long term future of Dr. Martens products through the continuous pipeline of research and development, focussing on the key Innovation areas of Seasonality, Self-Expression, Sustainability and Shoemaking. The ideal candidate will design beyond Seasonal packs, love big picture thinking, and be involved in cross-brand initiatives around sustainability and manufacturing innovation.

As our Assistant Designer you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the design and development of new product and technology opportunities.
  • Proactively seeking out and developing cross departmental relationships to build networks and deliver projects.
  • Creating on-trend product, material and technology boards for seasonal product reviews, meetings and presentations.
  • Conducting market research through retail, exhibitions, trade shows and wearer conversations.
  • Using 3D to visualise and prototype the team’s new designs and create 3D prints to assess new outsole concepts. Learn 3D software independently as needed.
  • Contributing to mainline team seasonal trend presentations to showcase innovation team work at seasonal kick offs.

THE STUFF THAT SETS YOU APART

Put simply, for this role the key things we’re looking for are:

  • Highly creative independent problem solving mindset.
  • Product / Industrial / Footwear / Design degree or relevant experience.
  • Strong design and illustration skills both hand drawn and digital.
  • Experience with and Enthusiasm for 3D
  • Working knowledge of current Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, PowerPoint, Word & Excel. Rhino 3D.
  • Passion for footwear design.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
