Job Description

Calling all Pharmacy Technicians. Are you interested in developing your leadership skills and working alongside a great team that ensure that patients have access to and receive their medication in a timely manner? If so, then take a look at our vacancy for a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician – Supply & Distribution.

As a department, it is an innovative and exciting place to work and we continue to enhance our high quality services and the roles of the pharmacy team. The postholder will play an integral part in the implementation of both a new prescription tracking system and pharmacy robot. There are also regular opportunities for individuals to develop and progress.

You should be enthusiastic, highly motivated, hardworking and demonstrate a desire to contribute towards developing our services. Previous experience of working in a supervisory or leadership role would be advantageous as well as an understanding of Good Distribution Practice. You will also have to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and all applications will be considered including those from candidates that are newly qualified, approaching the end of their PTPT or currently working in community pharmacy or a non-hospital role.

No two days are the same and if you like variation, then this is the post to you. One day you may validating our customers and the next training one of our team members. You will be expected to provide leadership to our great team of pharmacy assistants and porters as well as supporting in service development.

The core hours of duty are between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday working a 7.5 hour shift. There is a requirement to work weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis. (Currently 1 in 5 Saturdays or Sundays and 1 or 2 Bank Holidays per year.)

Depending on bed capacity within the hospital, there are occasions where the volume of work requires flexibility from the team on duty to stay late to ensure that patient care is not compromised. In these instances, team members are reimbursed with additional pay.

Duties to include but not be limited to:
Communication

Communicates all relevant information and advice to the pharmacy, nursing and medical teams; service users; and with external customers and organisations as required.

Service Planning and Delivery

Ensure that the team are providing an effective medicine supply service to external customers which includes; Lancashire Care Foundation Trust, Ambulance stations, GP’s, Private hospitals and other NHS organisations.

Ensure that the team are providing an effective stock replenishment service to LTHTR Wards and Departments and external organisations where Service Level Agreements are in place.

Contribute to effective stock management within the pharmacy department.

Ensure supply services are carried out in accordance with MHRA and GDP Guidelines

Deputise for Supply and Distribution Team Manager in their absence.

Provide cover for the Senior Pharmacy Assistant in their absence.Contribute to the monitoring of departmental KPIs and generation of action plans if applicable.

Team Management and Leadership

Contribute to effective team working within pharmacy.

Acts as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation.

Develop positive relationships with internal and external key personnel.

Comply with legal and organisational requirements, standards and codes of practice on equality, diversity, discrimination and rights relevant to own role and responsibilities.

Learning and Development

Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice, policies and legislation.

Supports the training and development of pharmacy team.

Quality and Governance

To support in the recording of departmental activity to ensure the quality of service provision.

Comply with current legislation, policy, good Distribution practice, organisational and professional codes of practice, MHRA Guidelines and ethical standards.

To ensure any incidents and near misses are identified, reported and recorded according to Trust policy

Contribute to the formal handling and investigating of complaints, error reports, accident/incident reports and monitor for preventative and/or corrective action and improvement.

Proactively manage risk and maintain safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines

Service Improvement

To contribute to the delivery and achievement of the department Service Plan and specific service improvements

Financial Management

To support the department to deliver PET targets and achieve financial balance.
