Job Description

Job Title: BabyRoom Leader - Full time

Responsible to: Nursery Manager

Main Purpose of Job:

· To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children.

· To ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare and safety is promoted.

· To inspire outstanding practice and share knowledge and understanding of children’s care, learning and development and give support to other team members within their immediate room and within the wider Nursery.

· To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children learn and develop through play.

· To possess the highest standards and latest knowledge of practice and serve as an example to the other practitioners within the setting.

· To have full regard to the requirements of the Statutory Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Safeguarding:

· All staff must have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

· To support colleagues to have the specific knowledge and skills required to work effectively with children aged children 0-24 months/24-36 months/37 to 59 months.

· To use specific training/knowledge and skills required to work effectively with children aged children aged 0-24 months/24-36 months/37 to 59 months.

· To follow and lead the curriculum policy within the team and monitor the effectiveness of practice of key persons within the room including the delivery of high quality STEM experiences as part of daily provision.

· To keep records of your key children’s development and learning journeys, share this with parents, carers and other key adults in the child’s life and organise parent reviews in conjunction with the EYFS Coordinator.

· To coach and mentor the team with existing and new initiatives.

· Support all staff to engage in good team work.

· To support all team members with early identification and intervention for children with emerging needs. Give physical, emotional and intellectual guidance as appropriate.

· Ensure that all children receive progress checks as laid out in the EYFS and that these are shared with parents in an appropriate and timely manner.

· Support the team in this area to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge to complete the two-year-old development checks effectively.

· Undertake appropriate supervision meetings for all members within your team in conjunction with the nursery management approach.

· Feed into appraisals, settings targets, and Nursery operations as deemed appropriate by the management team.

· Attend regular Room Leader meetings.

· Lead team meetings within the room.

· Support team members to seek out any training or support they may require to fulfil their roles and responsibilities.

· Support new team members through inductions and in partnership with the management team.

· Ensure that all record keeping is accurate and up to date within your designated area, including learning journeys of all children within your room, sleep chart, bathroom checks, accident forms, daily risk assessments and any other forms that support the learning, development and welfare of the children.

· Liaise with other professionals.

· To be responsible for good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness with the room and ensure that the safety standards are appropriate for the needs of young children.

· To ensure confidentiality of all information received by all team members in your area.

· Lead changes linked to environment plans based upon children current level of learning

· To have a knowledge of and adhere to all Health and Safety Regulations.

· To attend meetings as required and participate in training opportunities and performance development.

· To be accountable for the delivery of the above responsibilities and tasks.

· To undertake any duties set to you by the Management Team that will assist in the day-to-day running of the Nursery.

Specific childcare tasks

· To support and facilitate in the moment planning and the continuous provision, prepare and complete activities indoors and outdoors to support all children’s individual responses and next steps.

· Ensure that room checks and outdoor checks are conducted in line with nursery procedures.

· Ensure someone known and agreed by the nursery and parent collect each child.

· Cleaning and changing children as required.

· To ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing.

· To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate day to day care and early learning needs of the child.

· Ensure that poorly children are dealt with calmly and appropriately and that parents/carers are notified and that a suitable plan of action is made.

· To ensure that the provision promotes a high quality environment and that it meets the needs of individual children regardless of disabilities, family background or medical history.

· To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and ensure all staff uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside.

· To establish positive and sensitive relationships with children.

· To act as a role model and set achievable expectations.

· To be responsible for organising the environment inside and outside to ensure that resources and equipment are available and appropriate to meet the needs of the individual children in the group. These activities will take into account children’s abilities interests, language and cultural backgrounds.

· Make regular observations of children to ascertain which activities are best suited to needs of individual children in the group.

· Plan and participate in activities which develop each child in the group to her/his fullest potential.

· Record as required details of children’s developmental progress and attendance (i.e. children’s records, online learning journal and register)

· To liaise closely with parents /carers, informing them about the Nursery and its delivery of the EYFS, exchanging information about the children’s progress and encouraging parental involvement.

· Provide a safe and healthy environment at all times for all children in the group, reporting any concerns with regards to the premises, outdoor area or equipment to the Nursery Manager or Assistant Nursery Manager.

· To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff members; which is obtained as part of the job.

· To provide comfort and care at all times and ensure that children feel welcome and safe.

· Be involved in supervision of children in free play and outside play.

· To assist with domestic duties as required.

· Be familiar with safeguarding including own responsibilities together with care and risk assessment.

· To communicate with our Early Years Team, supporting the planning and implementation of activities with individuals or groups of children; promoting effective teaching and learning.

· To meet the physical needs of children, encouraging good standards of personal hygiene, whilst promoting independence.

· To provide support for the children’s emotional and social needs by implementing the principles of our Promoting Positive Behaviour Policy and role modelling high standards in all aspects of their role and personal conduct.

· To encourage children to interact and work co-operatively with others.

· To support the Company’s commitment on safeguarding children in all aspects of the service.

Additional Information

· This post is exempt from The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 as the position involves working within the close proximity of young children. The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and to be a member of the DBS Update Service.

· All staff will be subject to regular supervision sessions and will be required to sign a suitability declaration on an annual basis to ensure that ongoing suitability is monitored.

· All staff must hold an in date paediatric first aid certificate.

· All employees are made aware of their responsibility to notify the manager immediately of any changes to their circumstances that may affect their suitability to work with children – this is also the case in terms of any changes to the circumstances of those who live with the member of staff.
