Job Description

Sales & Marketing Director, WatchHouse

With 12 cafes, a roastery and new sites on the horizon, we continue to grow at pace and as we expand into new communities. The role of the Sales and Marketing Director will be critical in the future success of the business. Primarily focussed on the current UK business and potential international expansion, overall business development and investment strategy.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

  • Commercial omnichannel customer acquisition & retention; develop a “test and learn quick” culture, to maximise commercial opportunities. Driving a KPI & Insights led team, to ensure that decision making on Marketing Budgets and Commercial offerings are informed decisions, and then measured.
  • Brand & Creative; further developing the WatchHouse tone of voice and Customer profiles to maximise the growth and commercial opportunity with our key customer types. Leverage the popular core elements of our service offering (Modern Coffee) and come up with creative non-conformist ideas to inspire our customers.
  • Digital Customer Journey Experience; delivering a first class customer journey experience from first touch point with a customer (be that a CRM marketing email, a Social Ad, or an organic landing on the website), through to confirmation of order. Own and optimise the whole customer journey.
  • Team Leadership and Culture; being able to drive change. Driving a high-energy high performance (start-up) culture that inspires colleagues and brings out the best out of them. Further strengthening our cultural paradigm “passion to achieve”.


Key Objectives of the role:

  • Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive omnichannel sales, marketing, communications, social and CRM program that will enhance the company’s image and position within the marketplace.
  • Develops short and long-term plans and budgets for the department and its activities, monitors progress, assures adherence and evaluates performance.
  • Develops a brand strategy that builds the brand(s) with international and domestic customers and delivers campaigns that have consistent impact and delivery across all channels.
  • Leads in the development of digital communications, including the curation of content and audience engagement across all social media channels.
  • Identifies ways to use technology to improve brand positioning, customer experience and revenue generation. Serves as the subject matter expert on Digital, Tech & Data.
  • Leads in the development of insight driven digital strategies; provides sound business justification for investment.
  • Drives meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media, public, key influencers and commercial partners.
  • Ensures the success of a focused CRM strategy across all channels, leading the development and implementation of customer attraction and retention strategies to maximise engagement, customer satisfaction and revenue.


Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on Commercial Senior leader with demonstrable success gained in the hospitality and or luxury goods/retail industries.
  • Possesses breadth of knowledge and expertise across sales, marketing, branding, PR, loyalty and eCommerce.
  • Track record in leading 360 marketing strategies and implementation, developing innovative marketing campaigns, sales and communications activities which drive both brand awareness and revenue.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver on time and within budget, handling multiple projects at any given time.
  • Financially astute with the ability to be able to think and plan strategically, but still deliver to demanding time scales.
  • Ability to analyse data and metrics and translate insight into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent attention to detail, driven by the highest standards and levels of service.
  • Strong effective people management skills, able to engage and successfully lead and develop a high performing team.
  • Team player, actively contributes and shows commitment to building relationships within the team and across the wider business.
  • Excellent influencing skills with an ability to gain buy-in from multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • High integrity and personal standards with the drive and determination to succeed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a confident communicator at all levels both written and verbal with accomplished presentation skills.
  • Excels operating in a fast paced, entrepreneurial business.
