Job Description

Overview:
Building on the work of the Scottish Public Sector Analytical Collaborative programme (SPACe) and launched in 2022 the Scottish Government’s Data Platforms services and systems provide Scottish Government, and wider Scottish public sector, access to a range of analytical tools and services.

Public sector users who have successfully completed the application process are able to access a number of systems including the Analytical Workbench (AWB) which contains tools such as R, Python and Shiny and the Analytical Data Management (ADM) system which enables meta tagging and quality assurance of users data. These help data analysts and statisticians access the tools and data they need to deliver better decision making. The data and tools are provided virtually from the Edinburgh International Data Facility (EIDF) home of Scotland’s supercomputer.

As part of the wider public sector Digital Transformation programmes the Data platforms team is looking for a Technical Administrative Support Officer to help support the expansion and extension of the services that the data platforms team delivers.

Key areas of work for the Data Platforms Team include:

  • Manage access to ADM and AWB services including associated Information Governance and Access Control.
  • Manage software licences
  • Provide primary point of contact for problem/incidence resolution for data platform services
  • Provide subject matter expert guidance and support for specialist systems and services
  • Provide business analysis, data governance and data engineering services as part of Scottish Government transformation programmes
  • Provide primary point of contact for data linkage services for Scottish Government
  • Engaging with partner organisations across Public Sector to enable better sharing and use of data
This is an exciting post that will provide opportunities to develop your knowledge of the software, systems and services that support analysis across the public sector.

As part of the statistics division within the Digital Directorate in the Scottish Government, we work towards unlocking the power of data in Scotland focusing on the efficient, secure and ethical analysis of data.

We are looking for an individual with the ability to familiarise themselves quickly with our systems and services and be at the heart of a high quality service delivery team.

There will be opportunities for you to put your own stamp on this role and bring your ideas to the team, finding new and creative ways to improve the quality of service support.

DDaT Pay Supplement

This post attracts a £5,000 DDaT pay supplement after a 3 month competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review. This post is part of the Scottish Government DDaT profession. As a member of the profession you will join the professional development scheme, currently BCS RoleModelplus.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Data Platforms team colleagues to deliver customer support services for Data Platforms systems /services. (40%)
  • Prioritise, manage and resolve and where appropriate escalate, problems related to the operation of data platforms services. (40%)
  • Provide change management services (20%)
