The Cancer Institute, draws together research teams at UCL which focus on Cancer Biology and Translational Research, Experimental Cancer Therapeutics, and Clinical Cancer Studies. The Institute is a cross-disciplinary entity which promotes interdepartmental and cross-faculty learning and research.
A major focus of Dr. Roddie’s UCL Translation Team is the manipulation of T-cells for therapeutic applications using viral vectors. The main purpose of this position, based at UCL Cancer Institute Royal Free Hospital Campus is to assist with large-scale clinical manufacturing of viral vectors produced in the GMP suites of the Centre of Cell, Gene and Tissue Therapeutics. The position will also offer the possibility of conducting further research around the optimistaion of both upstream and downstream processes of viral vector manufacturing. The post is funded for one year in the first instance with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and/ or interest in CAR T-cell Immunotherapies, of aseptic cell/ tissue culture and of maintenance of cell lines. An MSc in a relevant discipline, together with skills in viral vector purity assessment and cell cryopreservation and thawing are desirable but not essential.
