About us
The Museum on the Mound was set up as the corporate museum of Bank of Scotland (now part of Lloyds Banking Group). It tells the story of money in all its shapes and forms, the history of banking, and the advent of building societies and life assurance. Our Education Service delivers both hands-on money-based activity sessions for visiting school groups, and facilitated digital workshops for groups unable to visit. Both provide an engaging and interdisciplinary approach to the subject.
The sessions explore: unusual currencies from around the world, coins, banknotes, and keeping money safe. Duties will involve: welcoming groups, setting up material in advance and packing away at the end, supervising the handling of original artefacts, encouraging and motivating pupils to take part in discussion, providing feedback to the Museum team. A typical on-site session will last approximately 4 hours and require delivering the same session three times. Sessions are usually run 9:30 – 13:30/14:00.
Facilitated Digital workshops last 30 – 60 minutes each, but usually several runs in a day. These require to present to a class over Teams, though the class will have been sent several items to interact with during the session.
There may also be additional shifts available Front of House/in our giftshop facilitating visits from the public and operating the till.
Full training will be provided.
