Job description
Do you have a passion for number crunching, statistics and modelling? Are you motivated by spotting patterns, identifying trends and understanding what the data is telling you? Do you like to innovate and try out new ways of working?
If so, we’re looking for a Data Analyst Level 4 Apprentice full of enthusiasm and potential to support our Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation Team in the North West.
The Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Officer role is vital to the effective/efficient running of our flood risk assets such as pumping stations and water control structures. You will be joining a team to support the prioritisation, planning and delivery of planned maintenance and asset replacement in order to maintain flood protection to homes, businesses and the environment. You will also be working closely with external contractors to help develop a world class asset management organisation.
Your role will be to support the team who manage our maintenance, breakdowns and project work using our computerised maintenance management system, and you’ll play a key role in managing our asset data and records and assure its quality.
More information can be found in the candidate pack.

Incident response remains a top priority for the Environment Agency. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
The North West MEICA Team is made up of mechanical, electrical and control engineers supported by a data and evidence team. You’ll report to the North West MEICA Team Leader. This team will support you with on the job training, but you’ll also have a dedicated Talent Coach to support your formal learning, and you’ll be part of a much wider apprentice community.
Experience/skills required
You need to meet the apprenticeship eligibility criteria, detailed in the applicant Candidate Pack.

Experience is not as important as your enthusiasm and commitment, but you must be confident using numbers. The role is about being able to collate, interpret and analyse data. You will have access to both training and support to develop your abilities whilst in the role.

What is important is that you have good attention to detail and would enjoy generating, analysing and understanding the data to establish what it tells us. For this you’ll need a good mathematical understanding.

You’ll also need:
  • Experience using Excel with a willingness to learn to use databases and geographical information systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective planning skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Decision making skills, based on data and evidence

Qualifications
  • A Level Maths (Grade A – C)
Contact and additional information
You’ll be completing a Data Analyst L4 Apprenticeship through a combination of online learning and remotely delivered workshops.

A minimum of 20% of your paid hours is allocated to apprenticeship training with the remained of your time spent learning ‘on-th-job’ in the workplace.
You’ll be responsible for completing coursework on time, maintaining up to date evidence for your assessments and putting into practice what you’re learning.

This is a permanent position and on successful completion of the apprenticeship your salary will be increased to £29,706 and your employment will continue with us.
