Job Description

Seafront Operations have a great opportunity for someone interested in BCP Council’s award-winning beaches. The Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy awarded our beaches with 26 prestigious Blue Flag and Seaside Awards this year. We are a top holiday destination and we’re proud of that.

Seafront Rangers are responsible for providing a safe and friendly environment to all its visitors year-round. This includes going that extra mile to make parts of the seafront Accessible by a beach wheelchair hire and the UK's first purpose-designed disabled accessible beach huts. We even have our own goats grazing on non-native shrubs on the seafront cliffs.

Our Seafront Rangers and RNLI Lifeguards team helped keep beach visitors safe across our beautiful seafronts. Rangers manage a number of operations, from land trains and beach equipment through to public facilities and cleansing. There are opportunities to help promote reducing plastic at the beach, encouraging visitors to use drinking fountains, school and litter picking groups, lots of charity runs come through this way.
We also work with partners including RNLI, Dorset Fire and Rescue, SWAST, UHD and more to keep our resort safe and welcoming for all.

If you are a person who thrives within a dynamic team and want to become a frontline ambassador to the thousands of visitors who use the beaches 365 days a year, then we would like to hear from you.

Act as a steward of the beach and assist with helping residents and visitors to foster voluntary compliance with beach regulations, like dog friendly beaches and avoiding cycling on the prom in peak summer times. Help us manage all the trades and catering services coming onto the prom every day. Respect, protect and enjoy our beaches is our motto.

An essential part of this role will be to lead a small crew of Assistants to deliver the standards expected by our visitors and beach users.

As a member of the Seafront Operations, you will play an active role in a busy, motivated team with opportunities to develop your skills and contribute to the direction of the service, ensuring Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is a great place to live, work and visit.

No two days are the same, it is always interesting and varied and you get to work with a fun team of experts. We work hard and we play hard, and we laugh a lot! You will get exceptional and ongoing training and we are always willing to help you thrive.

Uniform and radio are provided. Find yourself a good pair of sunglasses, it is warm out there!

Successful applicants will work in shifts covering 7 days per week including Bank Holidays and weekends. The applicant will also be expected to work outdoors for the majority of each shift in order to carry out their duties.

Holding a fully valid, UK driver’s license is essential for this role as we have various sized vans and vehicles to assist the profit-making businesses along the 15 miles of seafront: like the 3,600 Beach huts, 24 overnight lodges, restaurants, ice cream kiosks, adventure golf, amusement arcade, beach cafes, 2 Piers, Highcliffe Castle and car parks. You will be interested to know; these profits go towards the child and adult social services BCP Council have a statutory obligation to provide to residents in need.

Whatever stage of your career we welcome your application.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which all of our employees will move on to. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We’re hoping to implement these changes in 2024 and all colleagues joining us will be included in these changes.
