Job Description

Pegasus Medical (1808) is a secure patient transportation service delivering professional needs-led support solutions for people who may have mental health needs, challenging behaviour and other areas of complex care requiring a secure transport approach.Providing safe and reassuring care to our patients, we work closely with NHS organisations, private hospitals, Local Authorities, social care groups and the justice system.Pegasus Medical (1808) provide patient-centred therapeutic intervention 365 days a year, with a service tailored to the level of support required for each patient.Successful candidates will take the time to understand and assess each patient’s needs in order to effectively allocate the relevant skilled team and support required, to provide a comfortable and safe journey for everyone involved.Job Purpose:The right candidate will be responsible for providing high quality care and support to patients being transported for:Conveyance to Hospital from places of safetyConveyance to Hospital from Courts and Custody SuitesCourt Escorts and appearancesRepatriation and transfersNon- Emergency attendance to general hospitalsHospital AppointmentsSupport with Section 17 leavePatient observationsKEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYConvey and care for patients undertaking pre-planned activity and any Patient Transport journeys booked on the day.Effective treatment of patients, providing appropriate and necessary assistance for patients to access vehicles.Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.Where relevant check that patients have all the necessary requirements for their appointment or discharge, including paperwork and medication if appropriate.Demonstrate care and understanding for patients and their carers, even when patients or their carers are distressed or concerned.Ensure that all patients are treated with dignity and respect in communications and actions, in particular taking account of cultural differences and disability and in line with the policies, procedures and relevant legislation.Ensure that any concerns or complaints the patient may have are resolved at the time or, where this is not possible, advising patients or their carers of who to contact.Recording journey information accurately, such as deterioration in the patient’s health, accidents involving the patient or abusive or threatening behaviour on the appropriate documentation. Requesting support or other services where relevant.Ensure vehicles and equipment meet agreed service ability ensuring that they are kept in a state of cleanliness and any defects are recorded for action to be taken.Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards of care.May assist with the induction of new staff.Maintain a current valid driving licence and present driving license when requested by the Company. Notify the Company of any driving convictions immediately.Abide by the Highway Code and laws pertaining to driving.Carry out a daily vehicle check and report any vehicle defects immediately.Check and replace when necessary, ambulance supplies ensuring it is sufficient for daily operation.Ensure that appearance is clean and smart and full and correct uniform is worn at all times, with identification badge fully visible.Using service communications equipment, communicate regularly and effectively with the Transport Co-ordinator to ensure that work is planned effectively and efficiently.Assist in the delivery of local contract requirements by ensuring patients are moved within agreed timescales, where reasonably practicable, as defined within any Service Level Agreement.A basic awareness of incident scene management, including maintaining the safety of self and others.To undertake dynamic risk assessments taking account of patient and immediate environmental conditions.Comply with the Company Health and Safety guideline to ensure own safety and that of others.BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:Valid Full UK DrivingMaintain Enhanced DBSExcellent communication skillsAbility to remain calm under pressureAble to work as part of a teamExcellent attention to detailExperience in mental healthIn return, we offer:Full Training: Including Patient Care, Patient Transport, De-Escalation Techniques, Physical Intervention, Conflict Resolution, Handcuff training, SEELS training, ILS/BLS, Autism awareness, Sexual Safety etc. Additional training also available.Benefits:Additional leaveCompany eventsCompany pensionFree On-site parkingJob Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Zero hours contractSalary: £12.00-£15.00 per hourBenefits:FlexitimeFree parkingSchedule:Day shiftFlexitimeNight shiftOvertimeWeekend availabilityEducation:GCSE or equivalent (preferred)Experience:Care: 1 year (preferred)Language:English (required)Licence/Certification:Driving Licence (preferred)Ability to Commute: Birmingham (required)Work Location: In personApplication deadline: 17/11/2023Reference ID: Mental Health Care Assistant
