Due to service expansion in Theatres we are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic Healthcare Assistants to join our busy team. Specialties here include: Major open surgery, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery in Colorectal, Urology, Gynae Oncology, Hepatobiliary, and Upper GI. To assist the perioperative practitioner in the provision of nursing care. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary theatre team, with the ability to perform circulating role for minor and intermediate and major surgical procedures. A video about the Royal Surrey -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HsiGn9joTQ MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To undertake the transfer of patients between the following areas: • Ward and theatre including A&E patients; Post-operative patients from Recovery to the ward (NB a Registered Nurse must be present during the post-operative transfer); Endoscopy Department and the wards as requested. Assist the registered perioperative practitioner in the assessment, planning and delivery of patient care, including the daily preparation of theatres and ‘circulating’ duties. To care personally for the pre-operative patient within the patient holding bay. To undertake patient pre-operative checks in accordance with theatre policy. Develop and utilise good communication skills and receive and pass on telephone messages. To communicate all relevant information in a timely manner to theatre, recovery, ward and medical staff. Ensure that patients/clients belongings and valuables are kept safe, adhering to local procedures. To be able to administer and seek advice on the appropriate first aid measures in an emergency. Where necessary, to assist in the transfer of patients to the appropriate operating table top. To maintain the cleanliness of theatre table-tops in accordance with Trust procedure. Correctly use aids and equipment supplied, and report needs and obvious defects of this equipment to the appropriate registered perioperative practitioner. The Health Care Assistant is not responsible for the initial ordering of aids and equipment, or for their mechanical maintenance. To escort patients to the anaesthetic room and provide assistance, where necessary, to the anaesthetist/perioperative practitioner. To record patient theatre visit details in accordance with departmental data collection procedures. To be required to use computer systems purchased by the Trust, providing appropriate training has been given. To ensure the Theatre Transfer Area is maintained to a high standard. To assist in the collection of post-operative patients from theatre and transfer to the recovery area when requested. To be an integral member of the theatre team. To maintain confidentiality at all times. To ensure that patient privacy is maintained and that dignity and freedom of choice is enhanced. To delivery specimens to the laboratory as necessary. To collect blood for Theatres. To deliver and collect x-ray films and patient medical records. To assist in the receipt and distribution of stores, pharmacy and medical gasses. To attend in-service training, other training programmes and meetings, as required. To participate in the induction of new Health Care Assistants in the Theatre department. Provide help and assistance in the Day Surgery Theatres, if required. To work within the current policies issued by the Trust, reporting any sickness and accidents to the appropriate registered perioperative practitioner. To participate in any other duties that you may be asked to undertake by senior nursing staff. •
